94:1
Transliteration
Alam nashrah laka sadrak
Sahih International
Did We not expand for you, [O Muhammad], your breast?
Muhsin Khan
Have We not opened your breast for you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))?
Yusuf Ali
Have We not expanded thee thy breast?-
Dr. Ghali
Have We not expanded your breast for you,
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Did We not expand (an interrogative meant as an affirmative, in other words, ‘We did [indeed] expand’) your breast for you, O Muhammad (s), by means of prophethood and otherwise,

Transliteration
WawadaAAna AAanka wizrak
Sahih International
And We removed from you your burden
Muhsin Khan
And removed from you your burden,
Yusuf Ali
And removed from thee thy burden
Dr. Ghali
And laid aside from you your encumbrance.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
and relieve you of your burden,

Transliteration
Allathee anqada thahrak
Sahih International
Which had weighed upon your back
Muhsin Khan
Which weighed down your back?
Yusuf Ali
The which did gall thy back?-
Dr. Ghali
Which weighed down your back,
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
that which weighed down your back? — this is similar to where God says: that God may forgive you what is past of your sin [Q. 48:2].
94:4

Transliteration
WarafaAAna laka thikrak
Sahih International
And raised high for you your repute.
Muhsin Khan
And raised high your fame?
Yusuf Ali
And raised high the esteem (in which) thou (art held)?
Dr. Ghali
And did We not raise for you your remembrance?
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Did We not exalt your mention? For you are mentioned where I [God] am mentioned in the call announcing [the time for] prayer (adh?n), in the [second] call to perform the prayer (iq?ma), in the witnessing [‘there is no god but God, Muhammad is His Messenger’] (tashahhud), in the Friday sermon and in other instances.
94:5

Transliteration
Fa-inna maAAa alAAusri yusra
Sahih International
For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
Muhsin Khan
So verily, with the hardship, there is relief,
Yusuf Ali
So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief:
Dr. Ghali
So surely with difficulty comes ease,
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
For truly with hardship comes ease.
94:6
94:6
Transliteration
Inna maAAa alAAusri yusra
Sahih International
Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
Muhsin Khan
Verily, with the hardship, there is relief (i.e. there is one hardship with two reliefs, so one hardship cannot overcome two reliefs).
Yusuf Ali
Verily, with every difficulty there is relief.
Dr. Ghali
Surely with difficulty comes ease.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Truly with hardship comes ease: the Prophet (s) suffered much hardship at the hands of the disbelievers, but then he enjoyed ease when he was assisted to victory [by God] over them.
94:7
94:7
Transliteration
Fa-itha faraghta fansab
Sahih International
So when you have finished [your duties], then stand up [for worship].
Muhsin Khan
So when you have finished (from your occupation), then stand up for Allah's worship (i.e. stand up for prayer).
Yusuf Ali
Therefore, when thou art free (from thine immediate task), still labour hard,
Dr. Ghali
So when you are at leisure, (i.e., not o) then labor,
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
So when you are finished, from [performing] prayer, toil, exert yourself in supplication [to God],
94:8

Transliteration
Wa-ila rabbika farghab
Sahih International
And to your Lord direct [your] longing.
Muhsin Khan
And to your Lord (Alone) turn (all your intentions and hopes and) your invocations.
Yusuf Ali
And to thy Lord turn (all) thy attention.
Dr. Ghali
And to your Lord then be desirous (i.e., of His Grace).
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
and seek, devote yourself humbly to, your Lord.
