| 99:1 | Transliteration Itha zulzilati al-ardu zilzalaha Sahih International When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake Muhsin Khan When the earth is shaken with its (final) earthquake. Yusuf Ali When the earth is shaken to her (utmost) convulsion, Dr. Ghali When the earth is quaked with its (final) earthquake, Tafsir al-Jalalayn When earth is shaken, [when] it is rocked for the rising of the Hour, with its [final] quake, with its most violent rocking, one that befits its magnitude, | | 99:2 | Transliteration Waakhrajati al-ardu athqalaha Sahih International And the earth discharges its burdens Muhsin Khan And when the earth throws out its burdens, Yusuf Ali And the earth throws up her burdens (from within), Dr. Ghali And the earth brings out its heavy (burdens), Tafsir al-Jalalayn and the earth brings forth its burdens, its hidden treasures and its dead, casting them onto its surface, | | 99:3 | Transliteration Waqala al-insanu ma laha Sahih International And man says, "What is [wrong] with it?" - Muhsin Khan And man will say: "What is the matter with it?" Yusuf Ali And man cries (distressed): 'What is the matter with her?'- Dr. Ghali And man says, "What is it with it?" Tafsir al-Jalalayn and man, the disbeliever in resurrection, says, ‘What is wrong with it?’ — in denial of that situation. | | 99:4 | Transliteration Yawma-ithin tuhaddithu akhbaraha Sahih International That Day, it will report its news Muhsin Khan That Day it will declare its information (about all what happened over it of good or evil). Yusuf Ali On that Day will she declare her tidings: Dr. Ghali Upon that Day it will discourse (i.e., proclaim) about its tidings. Tafsir al-Jalalayn On that day (yawma’idhin substitutes for, and is the response to, idh?, ‘when’) it shall relate its chronicles, it shall inform of the good and evil deeds committed in it, | | 99:5 | Transliteration Bi-anna rabbaka awha laha Sahih International Because your Lord has commanded it. Muhsin Khan Because your Lord has inspired it. Yusuf Ali For that thy Lord will have given her inspiration. Dr. Ghali That your Lord has revealed to it. Tafsir al-Jalalayn for its Lord will have inspired it, that is, He will have commanded her to [do] this — in a had?th [it is stated], ‘It [the earth] shall testify to every single deed committed by every servant and handmaiden upon its surface’. | | 99:6 | Transliteration Yawma-ithin yasduru annasuashtatan liyuraw aAAmalahum Sahih International That Day, the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds. Muhsin Khan That Day mankind will proceed in scattered groups that they may be shown their deeds. Yusuf Ali On that Day will men proceed in companies sorted out, to be shown the deeds that they (had done). Dr. Ghali Upon that Day mankind will go forward in diverse (groups) to be shown their deeds. Tafsir al-Jalalayn On that day mankind shall issue forth, they will depart from the site of the Reckoning, in separate groups, divided up, so that those taking it [their book] by the right hand will go to Paradise, while those taking it by the left hand will go to the Fire, to be shown their deeds, that is, the requital for them, in [either] Paradise or the Fire. | | 99:7 | Transliteration Faman yaAAmal mithqala tharratinkhayran yarah Sahih International So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, Muhsin Khan So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it. Yusuf Ali Then shall anyone who has done an atom's weight of good, see it! Dr. Ghali So whoever does an atom's weight of charity will see it, Tafsir al-Jalalayn So whoever does an atom’s weight of good shall see it: he shall see its reward, | | 99:8 | Transliteration Waman yaAAmal mithqala tharratinsharran yarah Sahih International And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it. Muhsin Khan And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it. Yusuf Ali And anyone who has done an atom's weight of evil, shall see it. Dr. Ghali And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it. Tafsir al-Jalalayn and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil shall see it: he shall see its requital. |
