| 103:1 | Sahih International By time, Muhsin Khan By Al-'Asr (the time). Yusuf Ali By (the Token of) Time (through the ages), Dr. Ghali And (by) the afternoon! (Or: time). Tafsir al-Jalalayn By Time! — or [it ‘asr can mean the period] from the declining of the sun to sunset, or [it may denote] the afternoon prayer. | | 103:2 | Transliteration Inna al-insana lafee khusr Sahih International Indeed, mankind is in loss, Muhsin Khan Verily! Man is in loss, Yusuf Ali Verily Man is in loss, Dr. Ghali Surely man is indeed in (sheer) loss, Tafsir al-Jalalayn Verily man (al-ins?n: the generic) is in [a state of] loss, in all his bargaining, | | 103:3 | Transliteration Illa allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo assalihati watawasaw bilhaqqiwatawasaw bissabr Sahih International Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience. Muhsin Khan Except those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth (i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma'ruf) which Allah has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar) which Allah has forbidden), and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allah's Cause during preaching His religion of Islamic Monotheism or Jihad, etc.). Yusuf Ali Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy. Dr. Ghali Except the ones who have believed, and done deeds of righteousness, and enjoin each other to the Truth, and enjoin each other to patience. Tafsir al-Jalalayn except those who believe and perform righteous deeds, they are not in [a state of] loss, and enjoin one another to [follow] the truth, faith, and enjoin one another to patience, in [maintaining] obedience and in refraining from [acts of] disobedience. |
