| 107:1 | Transliteration Araayta allathee yukaththibu biddeen Sahih International Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense? Muhsin Khan Have you seen him who denies the Recompense? Yusuf Ali Seest thou one who denies the Judgment (to come)? Dr. Ghali Have you seen him who cries lies to the Doom? Tafsir al-Jalalayn Have you seen him who denies the Judgement?, the Requital and the Reckoning, that is to say, ‘Do you know who he is?’ If you do not know him then: | | 107:2 | Transliteration Fathalika allathee yaduAAAAualyateem Sahih International For that is the one who drives away the orphan Muhsin Khan That is he who repulses the orphan (harshly), Yusuf Ali Then such is the (man) who repulses the orphan (with harshness), Dr. Ghali That is the one who repulses the orphan Tafsir al-Jalalayn That is he (read an implied huwa after the f?’ [of fa-dh?lika]) who repels the orphan, that is to say, [who] violently drives him away from what is his due, | | 107:3 | Transliteration Wala yahuddu AAalataAAami almiskeen Sahih International And does not encourage the feeding of the poor. Muhsin Khan And urges not the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor), Yusuf Ali And encourages not the feeding of the indigent. Dr. Ghali And does not urge the (offering) of food to the indigent. Tafsir al-Jalalayn and does not urge, either himself or others [to], the feeding of the needy: this was revealed regarding al-‘?s? b. W?’il or al-Wal?d b. al-Mugh?ra. | | 107:4 | Transliteration Fawaylun lilmusalleen Sahih International So woe to those who pray Muhsin Khan So woe unto those performers of Salat (prayers) (hypocrites), Yusuf Ali So woe to the worshippers Dr. Ghali So woe to the ones who pray, Tafsir al-Jalalayn So woe to them who pray, | | 107:5 | Transliteration Allatheena hum AAan salatihimsahoon Sahih International [But] who are heedless of their prayer - Muhsin Khan Who delay their Salat (prayer) from their stated fixed times, Yusuf Ali Who are neglectful of their prayers, Dr. Ghali Who are they that are unmindful of their prayer, Tafsir al-Jalalayn those who are heedless of their prayers, neglectful, delaying them from their appointed times, | | 107:6 | Transliteration Allatheena hum yuraoon Sahih International Those who make show [of their deeds] Muhsin Khan Those who do good deeds only to be seen (of men), Yusuf Ali Those who (want but) to be seen (of men), Dr. Ghali Who are they that show off, Tafsir al-Jalalayn those who make a pretence, with prayers and otherwise, | | 107:7 | Transliteration WayamnaAAoona almaAAoon Sahih International And withhold [simple] assistance. Muhsin Khan And refuse Al-Ma'un (small kindnesses e.g. salt, sugar, water, etc.). Yusuf Ali But refuse (to supply) (even) neighbourly needs. Dr. Ghali And (refuse and) prevent (small) kindnesses. Tafsir al-Jalalayn and deny aid, as [insignificant as] a needle, a hatchet, a cooking pot or a bowl. |
