| 113:1 | Transliteration Qul aAAoothu birabbi alfalaq Sahih International Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak Muhsin Khan Say: "I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of the daybreak, Yusuf Ali Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the Dawn Dr. Ghali Say, "I take refuge with The Lord of the Daybreak, (Literally: the Splitting "of the day"). Tafsir al-Jalalayn Say: ‘I seek refuge in the Lord of the Daybreak, the morning, | | 113:2 | Transliteration Min sharri ma khalaq Sahih International From the evil of that which He created Muhsin Khan "From the evil of what He has created; Yusuf Ali From the mischief of created things; Dr. Ghali From the evil of whatever He has created, Tafsir al-Jalalayn from the evil of what He has created, of obligated animate beings and non-obligated ones and from all inanimates, such as poison and so on; | | 113:3 | Transliteration Wamin sharri ghasiqin ithawaqab Sahih International And from the evil of darkness when it settles Muhsin Khan "And from the evil of the darkening (night) as it comes with its darkness; (or the moon as it sets or goes away). Yusuf Ali From the mischief of Darkness as it overspreads; Dr. Ghali And from the evil of a dusky night when it overspreads (its gloom), Tafsir al-Jalalayn and from the evil of darkness when it gathers, that is, [from] night when it becomes dark and the moon when it is absent, | | 113:4 | Transliteration Wamin sharri annaffathatifee alAAuqad Sahih International And from the evil of the blowers in knots Muhsin Khan "And from the evil of the witchcrafts when they blow in the knots, Yusuf Ali From the mischief of those who practise secret arts; Dr. Ghali And from the evil of the women who spit on the knots, (i.e., perform malignant witchcraft). Tafsir al-Jalalayn and from the evil of the women-blowers, sorceresses who blow, on knots, which they knot into strings, blowing into them [certain] words, but without spittle; however, al-Zamakhshar? says, ‘with this [spittle]’ — [sorceresses] such as the daughters of the said Lab?d — | | 113:5 | Transliteration Wamin sharri hasidin itha hasad Sahih International And from the evil of an envier when he envies." Muhsin Khan "And from the evil of the envier when he envies." Yusuf Ali And from the mischief of the envious one as he practises envy. Dr. Ghali And from the evil of an envier when he envies." Tafsir al-Jalalayn and from the evil of an envier when he envies’, [when] he manifests his envy and behaves in accordance with it — such as the mentioned Lab?d from among the Jews who were envious of the Prophet (s); the mention of these three [elements of evil] which are [already] subsumed by [the statement] ‘of what He has created’, is because of the severity of their evil. |
